Oh yeah, that seems to work in Linux too! Actually, trying it in Windows now, I find that horizontal scrolling does work even without the Shift key. But it's extremely slow, and you can only scroll X or Y independently, not both at the same time.
It doesn't seem to be possible in any OS to scroll X and Y at the same time. Would other people find this useful?
