In general, the plans seem to fall on whoever needs it first, then whoever 
wants to actually do it. I overhauled the MIDI handling a couple years ago now, 
so hopefully it won't be too difficult to extend what we have if someone wants 
to jump into byte protocols. I'm mildly interested but it will take a while 
until I can get around to it.
