Yesterday, I discovered that you cannot install "Pure Data" with the default graphical "Software" manager on Ubuntu status.
It looks like the vanilla (non-terminal) way of installing software on Ubuntu (at least 20.04) is the graphical application gnome-software. gnome-software works like an app store and apparently also manages snaps and other formats. However, the list of available applications is curated and "Pure Data" is not part of it. It doesn't appear in the section "Audio & Video" nor in the section "Development tools". Even specifically searching for "Pure Data" or "puredata" doesn't yield any results. That's not exactly good advertisement! People either have to install 'synaptic' - which is a graphical frontend for apt - or use the terminal to the install the 'puredata' package. Yet, I'm not sure how this is addressed. But I think we should address it. Someone on #ubuntu posted this link when I asked about the process of including software in the curated list: https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Distributions/AppStream/ Roman On Wed, 2022-04-06 at 09:32 +0200, Robert Grah wrote: > Gerat news!
