I'm getting nowhere trying to use Distiller 6 to turn a .ps file into a .pdf. (Mac OSX.2.6, Distiller 6, Illustrator 10.0.3) I set up a Watched folder. I opened a simple AI file (type only, about 300K). I tried three times saving as a file, using three "printers": Adobe PDF, for PDFs on localhost (which I created and use to make PDFs of InDesign ads our church runs in the local newspaper), and LaserWriter 8500 (my Postscript laser printer). Distiller would look at the files but not produce anything, reporting zero processing time. Same thing if I drag the file into the Distiller window. One time it reported failure because a library was missing. *** DANG........ I just started Distiller again to see if it kept a log that would tell me what library was missing, so I could tell you. This time the notes area at the bottom of the initial window reported that a library (CID?) had been put in place. So I dragged the .ps file into the window - and got a PDF! Which looks fine. PROBLEM GONE I guess one troubleshooting technique is just to open an offending app a few times to give it a chance to figure out how to fix itself.
