Calling another application is possible, by "opening a file". This would, however, require that you have the exact path to that application. So, this works only in a well-known environment.
In order to pass parameters, or have more things to do, you can not do it without some programming. You would use the scripting environment of your operating system (AppleScript, batch files, etc.) in order to accomplish this. This is not thaaat complicated, and should work pretty well. This would also help you overcome the location of the applications on the user's machines.

Is there a way simple way to have a an external program launch from Acorbat 5? If there is, is there a way (kit) to have certain activities to be carried out in that other application? Assuming no computer programing experience - am I way over my head?
