We've been using Acrobat daily since 1997, starting out on Acrobat 3 and progressing to 4, 5, and recently to 6 professional. I consider myself fairly proficient with Acrobat, but the ease of use from the previous versions doesn't seem to be there. We're having a hard time getting our production team to use it and they've all moved back to Acrobat 5. I downloaded the patch earlier this week and have installed it on all of the machines, but it hasn't helped.

One of the biggest complaints is about Linking: what used to be 4-5 steps is now closer to 10-12 if you're going outside the document. Also you need to know what page you're going to since Acrobat 6 no longer allows you to view another page before linking to it. We produce manuals that have a myriad of links numbering in the thousands, adding six steps to each link can be costly in time and production. Granted the new copy link function is nice, but we were doing that in 4 and 5 with Ari's Link tool, so any production savings from this feature was previously incorporated into our workflow.

There are other issues like Searching, layout of tools and using Distiller that would appear to be simple learning adjustments. The aesthetics are awful to look at, but I realize that's a personal preference.

We only upgraded to 6 to have better performance in OSX and we can continue doing are jobs very well in Acrobat 5 by having it open in Classic, but since the company purchased all of these upgrades it's really been a waste of time and money at this point.

Is anyone using Acrobat 6 extensively? Are you enjoying it? Was it worth the upgrade/purchase? Is it me, or is it running much slower - even on new machines with plenty of RAM and processor speed? How long did it take you to adjust to the new program? Is there training source you would recommend?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Chris
