[PDF-Basics] Problem downloading Acrobat Reader

Can any one help with this? I'm non-techy so please explain in plain language.   I had acrobat on my computer and somehow it was deleted. When I try and download it looks like it is starting but then nothing happens.   I have tried many of the suggestions in the support section of adobe.com unsuccessfully.   I have downloaded files successfully from Windows update but there seem to be other instances when I try to download a file or use a link on a web page that nothing happens with no indication of whets going on.   Could it be a virus? None show up but need to update my protection.   Its probably simple but I am clueless.....so before I take the computer in to service I thought I'd see if anyone could help.   Thanks   Sat Khalsa Integrity Sales and Marketing
