I'm not au fait with Pagemaker, but the error command in Distiller suggests that you are using a colour space that you should not be using, eg RGB or LAB. You will need to go back to your document in Pagemaker and check out whether or not you are using CMYK or RGB colours. In Acrobat, I use a plug-in called "Box of Tricks" to identify and correct incorrect colour spaces (pre-flight).
