Do you know of a way to turn off the "Save As" function in Acrobat Reader? What I'm doing: Distributing a CD-ROM to 500 customers with a PDF document on it. The PDF is "wrapped" in an install script so that users can't just insert the CD-ROM into their PC and open the PDF. To get to the PDF, they need to run the install program, and the install program checks to make sure they have a security device (which we provide to them) attached to their computer. Why I'm doing that: So no one without the security device attached to their computer can open the PDF. My problem: Once someone has opened the PDF, I can't think of a way to prevent them from selecting Save As from the File menu and saving a copy of the PDF. This copy could be distributed freely, since it would not require the security device in order to be opened. What I can't do: There are two possible solutions that AREN'T options for me: 1. I can't use Distiller's security settings to password-protect the PDF. (Anyone willing to distribute an illegal copy of the PDF would not hesitate to include the password when they did so!) 2. I can't disable all access to the menus in Acrobat Reader, since I do want licensed users to be able to print the document for their own use. Any ideas? thanks for your help - linda To change your subscription: http://www.pdfzone.com/discussions/lists-pdfbasics.html
