Hi Annmarie,

I know this may sound a long way round and I appreciate you may not have the
time to do this and I only have experience on the PC platform, but if you
open the file up in Word and save as a Web Page. The contents of the file
will split into text and picture files into separate folders.

The picture files will either be PNG files or the original format your
client used, e.g JPEG, and usually at their original size. What tends to
happen is that the clients will "shoehorn" the pictures into spaces in the
advert, so the original picture file is normally much bigger, (ever wondered
why the Word file is so big when there are only one or two small pictures in
it? This is usually why.).

Now you have the pictures separated out you can open up in Photoshop, resize
them to approx final print size, change resolution and colour depth to CMYK
then reassemble the whole lot in Quark or the favoured application of
choice.

However, if the original picture is of really bad quality there's really
nothing I can suggest that would improve them.

Does this help?

Regards,

Chris

Subject: [PDF-Basics] FW: Error importing a PDF into Quark 6.0

Hi,

I am having trouble with a one page in a Word document that I have converted to a PDF and imported into QuarkXpress 6.0.

I successfully converted the Word document to PDF and imported it into Quark as a PDF.

Once in Quark, it will not print one page of the PDF pages, this is the error that I get.

ERROR: invalidfont

OFFENDING COMMAND: definefont

STACK:

/Font

-dictionary-

/EJBANK+SymbolMT+FEJDZK

-savelevel-

I have tried to embed only the fonts that I want, I have selected never embed SymbolMT.

Nothing has worked, any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I running Windows XP, Acrobat 6.0 and QuarkXpress 6.0

Thanks,

Annmarie
