Yes, that is the symbol.

My original document is a pdf that I downloaded from a website. In the
document properties is says it was produced with Acrobat Distiller Daemon
3.02b for Solaris 2.3 and later (SPARC).

I am using Adobe Acrobat 5.0, with Windows 2000 Professional.

I have tried exporting and it deletes the symbol. Save as .rtf changes it
into _. Cut and paste changes it into a hollow square.

???
