Bill, I have experience doing that. But unlike you, I get the native files(Quark, Ill., Photo., etc) and create my own pdf using a setting the does not compress the file. Then we take the uncompressed pdf (ad) and place in a Quark doc. but this time when we make the pdf we use compression and resampling. I do this because I'm not sure how a compressed pdf placed inside a Quark doc. will turn out if compressed again. It doesn't seem like a good idea, so I avoid it. You don't have that luxury, so I would guess most files will turn out just fine while other may not, but I have not evidence as I have not tested this. If you do proceed with using any pdf supplied and redistilling, let us know how things turn out.
