Save As... saves AND optimizes your files based on the settings you have setup regarding Fast Web View. When you just save a file Acrobat doesn't "look" through the file for duplicate page backgrounds, unused objects, etc. and everytime you save the file it creates a sort of digital "buildup" of junk within the file until you use either Save As... or PDF Optimizer under the advanced menu (Acrobat 6). Fast Web View is also a batch option (Advanced menu) so if you want to shrink a bunch of files real fast, use the batch option. There are settings that let you choose the downsampling of images (DPI options) among other things to greatly reduce the size of a PDF file. As far as how long it takes, I've waited 2 and a half hours for a 100 Mb file to Save As... It seems to be a bug in 6 in combination with the OS or other programs and plug-ins. ~James Opinions expressed are mine. Can't we all just get along? ___________________________________________________________ From: Suzanne Denis I am working with Acrobat 6.0 and and want to create a PDF from multiple TIF. It is working fine, until I add headers. After creating the headers, if I use the option "Save" it takes about 30 seconds (for 320 tif) but the file is about 15 times the size of the one before the headers. If I use the option "Save as" it takes 5:30 minutes but the file size is normal... How come ??? Thanks, Suzanne To change your subscription: http://www.pdfzone.com/discussions/lists-pdfbasics.html
