If the link path you want to edit is exposed as human readable text (and links usually are) in the binary structure of the PDF file, it can be batch edited. Look at the binary editor in PDF-SuperTool (PDF-SuperTool has 40 automation functions - the Binary Editor is tool #33) It can perform a search and replace of text exposed (such as a link path) as human readable text at the binary level of the PDF file. http://www.pdfstore.com/details.asp?ProdID=732 Steve Harris ----- Original Message ----- From: "Miller, James" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Wednesday, April 21, 2004 8:23 AM Subject: RE: [PDF-Basics] Link adress to external documents PDF-Basics is a service provided by PDFzone.com | http://www.pdfzone.com/ __________________________________________________________________ There's no way that I know of to manually edit the path of a link within the linking tool dialogue box. Does your IT dept. run some sort of visual basic script on all the files to get them into compliance with their network rules? Is it at all possible to use their naming rules so that the file has the correct naming format from it's inception? Do you have access to the files after they're uploaded to your intranet? If so, is it possible to then copy the files back to your local machine, fix the link with the correct filename, and re-upload the files to their respective intranet directories? This may be the hard way, but I sometimes have to do that to files that get uploaded to our book databases because the script doesn't like the name and breaks the ToC links. Are you linking from an HTML page to the PDF? If so, as long as the link points to the right directory, the code can be edited to point to the correct file. Maybe your network administrator can help you out with pertinent information about the network structure that will make it easier for you to comply with their rules early in the workflow so you don't have to scramble to make things work later on. Maybe I have no idea what the heck I'm talking about. We may never know. ~James Les opinions exprimées sont le mien. Je n'avait pas d'idée je pourrais parler le français! I need to update the name but can't really use the link tool. I'we tried destinations but I can't updeate the link address manually ther either. The tool we use for updating the intranet wants to change the document name I link to into a wed safe name, since this is done in connection with the publishing of the file we dont really know what name the file will get when its published. This is only a problem when we want to create a pfd file and create a link before we publish. If we create a common intranet page the link is created within the tool and then we browse to the published file.
