Ah, comb fields...

First, do you _really_ need them when filling out the form on-screen?

But if so, you can define a text field as comb with a given number of characters, and that does work ... but only in Acrobat 6.

Otherwise, if you have primarily a paper form which already has the combs set, and you will have to deal with Acrobat 5 and older, there is a way to work with comb fields, but it is "a little bit messy". If you are interested in that, feel free to follow up on this message; I would then explain it.
