Do you mean that the installer aborted while you were installing Reader or that the download of the Installer aborted? If the latter, do not use Adobe Download Manager when downloading the installer.
Help for Reader does not appear to use a browser, MSIE or otherwise.
According to the User Guide, the plug-in that enables one to view PDF documents in a Web browser works (on the PC) with IE 5.0 or later, Navigator 7.0 or later or AOL 6.0 or later.
