As a very first step you might try reading the section in the Acrobat online help (Help>Acrobat Help), entitled 'Using custom javascript in forms', page 164 in the Acrobat 5 version. That will give you a taster of what it's about. Then you might try the Acrobat JavaScript Guide (Help>Acrobat JavaScript Guide), especially the first three chapters. Then you might want to spend some money. The John Deubert book is supposed to be pretty good.
