Hi Mark,

You state that you would like to "generate" layered PDF files of maps - what
application are you using to 'author' them - Adobe Illustrator or some
'system' that generates PostScript or PDF directly ?

Certainly, one can 'save as' PDF from Illustrator and the PDF file will
contain the layers in Illustrator format within the PDF - but you need
Illustrator to view them.

And I do not believe (as in, I am not sure) there is any support to extract
or display these layers in the Adobe Acrobat SDK (Software Developer Kit) so
ISV's (Independent Software Vendors) could develop a way to view or modify
Illustrator layers while in Acrobat.

I am not aware of any plug-in developer that supports layers except
Lantana...
