What type of image? Is this a raster image that you've placed into the source document and then PDF'd? If so, just fix it in the original and recreate the PDF...

Sure. Adobe Acrobat 6 Professional has a feature called PDF Optimizer, and then there are also 3rd party products such as our PDF Enhancer (http://www.pdfsages.com/enhancer.html)
I'd like to have a tool
like ImageReady, in which you have a quick side-by-
side comparison to which you can make changes in
memory and view the results as you go. Is anything
like that possible in Acrobat?
Not exactly - you need to create each of the different "levels" of the document using one of the above tools, then open them up and tile...
