It isn’t enough to just have a hi-res PDF, color is important too. The first problem is how is the file being printed? If you are sending the file to a printer with an offset or web press, then all of your colors, and all of your images need to be CMYK, and saved to a standard, SWOP is the US standard, and of course, resolution should be 300dpi for most jobs. Your printer can tell you what they want. Then I like to print my graphics file, (I use Quark6 with Illustrator 10 and PhotoShop 7 images imported), to a PS, (PostScript), file and distill it to a PDF. I use a PPD, (PostScript Printer Definition), that my printer gave me to make my PS file. Then I use settings for distiller that my printer set up. The PPD and Job Options file were actually on my printers web site. I hope this makes sense.
