Just finished producing a 40 page newspaper for the first time. Built pages
in Quark 4.11. Converted to PDF with Quark's Export as PDF and Acrobat 5.
(Somewhere in the session I saw "Creo" or something flash on screen; perhaps
that's a third party Xtension; or not.)

There was one to ask technical questions, so I used whatever settings were
established at the job site.

A few of the pages errored out in Distiller. One was fixed by substituting
fonts. For the others I exported a PDF ad from Acrobat 5 as a TIFF (which
would be RGB), converted to CMYK in Photoshop, and placed in Quark. Small
type gets pixilated but otherwise that worked.

Under close deadline, I had more questions than answers. I wondered if an
RGB PDF could error the PDF-making process? Wondered if I can identify RGB /
CMYK in Quark? Couldn't even find a way to identify the color mode in
Acrobat and then convert to CMYK. Wondered if the fact that the TIFFs
exported from Acrobat 5 were RGB meant that the original PDFs were also RGB?

Answers and suggestions invited...
