With all due respect, try scanning the 4 point type on the side of a pharmaceutical package at 300 ppi and then OCR it. An 8x10 1 bit TIFF at 300 ppi is 320k An 8x10 1 bit TIFF at 600 ppi is 860k - I guess I don�t see any big deal with the file size being an issue. I will stick with recommending 600 ppi for more successful OCR.
