For example, Futura Extra Bold becomes something that looks like Myriad
Roman. (Seems to follow Eric's thesis.)

That's close to the exact message. In composing the first message, I twice
tried to select, copy and paste the exact message from Distiller into
Entourage. Both times the Command C caused Distiller to crash. What's with
that? (question is mostly rhetorical)

(My system is a generally-stable 667 G4 PowerBook with a gig of memory and
OSX.2.8.)

Useful to know. Thanks.

This morning I tried to turn an ad for a paying client into a PDF. Suitcase
had activated Bookman Italic for that ad (hadn't used that font for a
while). Bookman Italic didn't make it into the PDF. So Eric's explanation
(below) seems ever more plausible. That's my next try.

Panther or Illustrator CS? Which do I squeeze first out of my limited
budget? That was my circulating question. Given the attractive new
Illustrator features, the possible/probable fix for this issue, and the
current Panther problems with external Firewire drives, I think the choice
will be Illustrator CS.

Thanks to both of you...
