A word of caution, if you decide to buy standard and later want professional there is no "upgrade" you have to buy the full license again. Been there.--Susan

AB 5 was just that...AB 5. There was no standard or pro version. Pro was
first offered with AB 6, and includes new features (such as pre-flight,
color separations capabilities, etc.) never before offered (and it comes
with a higher price tag).
With your AB 5 license you may buy either version. You can either spend $99 or $149...your choice.

OK, now I'm confused. I just checked Adobe's website. They list 6.0 Professional for $449, and the upgrade for $149. Since I have 5.0 Standard, can I just get the $149 upgrade, or do I need to get the $449 version?

They call it an upgrade, which technically it is, but Adobe has changed the how the program is marketed. You can buy either standard ($99) or pro ($149) It's only 50 bucks more for a laundry list of features.

Rich -
Thanks for the comparison sheet.
In response to #2, you can buy Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Standard Upgrade. Which, I would assume is to upgrade from 5.0 to 6.0. Correct?

Two questions; two answers.
1. I'm sending you privately a PDF which shows a side-by-side comparison of the differences in AB 6 Standard and Pro. You need to look at them one-by-one, and see what works best for you.
2. When you buy Acrobat 6, it is a full version...it's not like a service pack, for example.

All -
Looking for a little insight from the group. I am at the point where I really need to step up from Acrobat 5.0 to Acrobat 6.0. I am trying to figure out if I need Standard or Pro. Generally speaking, I write technical manuals and training programs, where the final product is a PDF to be printed. Sometimes, my clients like to have them available to their customers via the web as well. I do most of my development using Microsoft Word and PowerPoint (driven by customer requirements, personally I would prefer to use something more stable than Word, like FrameMaker). I also generate some PDFs from Visio Technical. On occasion, I create some simple forms. I don't do any programming.
Also, I would like to see if anyone out there has had any problems when just doing an upgrade, rather than buying the full version. I realize that Adobe isn't Microsoft, but I know I have had some problems in the past when upgrading from one version of a Microsoft product to the new version. I wish I had just bought the full version.
Thanks,
Brian
