We provide many of our books on CD in pdf form. Not e books as such but just
standard pdfs often linked to other data files such as QT, Word, Excel,
Flash, PowerPoint etc.

My question is what are the disadvantages of distilling Quark legacy docs
and now InDesign docs using Distiller 4 as opposed to 5 as opposed to 6. I
am not so much concerned with compression/file size issues but am thinking
along the lines of accessibility tagging/rtf saving/document structure
issues. There may be more that I don't know about and the ones I have just
mentioned I don't really have much of a handle on anyway. By using 4 are we
missing the chance to embed that kind of data that we may require later.
What opportunities are lost with 4 and then 5? Can anything that is not
included in a 1.3 file be put back by redistilling the pdf with 6.0 into a
1.5 format file?

I am concerned with the future proofing of these files because in some cases
we may not have access to the original files.

Many thanks

Mark
