If it makes you feel any better, this is a crappy PDF.

It was made by AB 4 (not even 4.05) on the Mac. By the list of fonts included in the document, it appears like it was made by combining multiple files. The font list had many iterations of Helvetica, Arial and others...some with ANSI encoding, and some with Roman encoding. The list of multiple fonts with the same name (and different subsets) went on and on and on.
 
I was able to successfully test print the first 10 pages using AB 6.01 and an HP LaserJet 4200 printer.
 
It was made with Framemaker 5.5 in February, 2000 and modified (probably combined) in April). The timing would probably explain why the maker didn't have AB 4.05. If my memory serves me correctly, the 4.05 update wasn't introduced until late in 1999.
 
Thus, this really "isn't" a Reader problem. It is a problem with faulty and outdated software.
