The amount of 12 is used for the font scaling. In my document and in many other documents too, the font size is set to 1 (see Tf operator). The real fontsize is indirectly set by using the rotation factor of the textmatrix. If only rotation values of Math.PI/2 are used, the rotation values will be a combination of +/-1 > I tried changing my Tm similarily and it messed something up because the > text no longer was visable in the document.
