The trunk code in the Apache repository is significantly updated. Your best option is to download the source code and build your own.
The team is working toward a new binary release, but is not quite there yet. If you would like to try a version of the binaries from May, one is available at http://www.blacklocustsoftware.com/PDFBox_Binaries.php ... but again, downloading the latest source code and building it yourself is your best option right now.
