I would imagine that invoking Reader from the command-line would be rather sluggish. I'm unsure from reading through the documentation *exactly* how Spooler interacts with Reader, but i would think it would be more efficient than via the command-line. Obviously the interaction with Reader via the PrintPDF method is transparent to the developer... >but I didn't think using Reader as a server product was legal either? >From the activePDF site... Q. Can I use the full version of Acrobat? A. No. The full version of Adobe Acrobat is not licensed for server use and doing so will violate Adobe's End User License Agreement. If, however, you are installing activePDF Spooler on multiple workstations where only a single user will access the software, then you may be eligible to use the full version of Acrobat. Please consult legal counsel for any advice regarding Adobe licensing. - Chris. ___________________________________ Chris Dahl - CTO ARTS PDF Solutions [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.aroundtablesolution.com/ ARTS - A Round Table Solution -----Original Message----- From: Elliot Gibbs [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, June 16, 2003 2:33 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [PDFdev] Printing PDF or Postscript from .NET PDFdev is a service provided by PDFzone.com | http://www.pdfzone.com _____________________________________________________________ Thanks for that Chris >From looking at the ActivePDF Spooler product info it says that it uses the Acrobat Reader to open the PDF file. I have already been able to print using Acrobat Reader in .NET (command-line execution), but I didn't think using Reader as a server product was legal either? Also do you have any experience with performance for this product? I found printing with Reader was quite slow. Any comments/info/opinions on this would be helpful. Well you can't use the Acrobat SDK for printing your PDFs (as Acrobat isn't licensed to run in server/unattended mode), so I would suggest looking at activePDF Spooler... http://www.pdfstore.com/details.asp?ProdID=46 This is a COM version, but there are .NET wrappers for most activePDF products (Spooler does) available for download at the activePDF website. Hope this helps... - Chris. ___________________________________ Chris Dahl - CTO ARTS PDF Solutions [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.aroundtablesolution.com/ ARTS - A Round Table Solution -----Original Message----- From: Elliot Gibbs [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, June 16, 2003 1:54 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [PDFdev] Printing PDF or Postscript from .NET PDFdev is a service provided by PDFzone.com | http://www.pdfzone.com _____________________________________________________________ Yes, I need to print to paper - I'm working with pre-existing PDF files. This is a server-based application so would need to be fairly scaleable and ideally not have a GUI. -----Original Message----- From: Chris Dahl [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, June 16, 2003 3:45 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [PDFdev] Printing PDF or Postscript from .NET PDFdev is a service provided by PDFzone.com | http://www.pdfzone.com _____________________________________________________________ I'm assuming you want to actually print your PDF to paper and not print to PDF, yes? Is this a server-based, or client-based solution? - Chris. ___________________________________ Chris Dahl - CTO ARTS PDF Solutions [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.aroundtablesolution.com/ ARTS - A Round Table Solution -----Original Message----- From: Elliot Gibbs [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, June 16, 2003 1:00 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [PDFdev] Printing PDF or Postscript from .NET Hi there I need to programmatically print out a PDF file. Converting first to Postscript and then printing that instead would be fine also. Ideally would like to use a .NET native API of some sort, but a COM API would also be ok. Any ideas?
