I have not been successful in creating a PDF file with Asian text without the font being embedded. If you look at this adobe web page: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/acrrasianfontpack.html It implies that you can create a PDF file using these CJK fonts without embedding them and the font support will be supplied by Acrobat Reader 6. I have downloaded one of these font packs to inspect.
