I read it also in the PZ-1 manual.  It is targeted at turning the camera off 
when mounting/dismounting autofocus lenses.  I do this all the time, in 
error, and the autofocus lenses tend to 'snap to attention' as they make 
electrical contact.  There is no problem what so ever with manual K, M or A 
lenses.
