Hi, Mafud. It's been a while... what's new?
Just getting back from a 24 day journey home (to Brooklyn New York). My
family reunion was great, especially having the three brothers in the same
room for the first time in 19 years!
But I also did a lot of visiting old neighborhoods. My primary reason for
going to New York was to write a feature article on the Federation of Black
Cowboys, Brooklyn, New York. Imagine, nearly 50 working Cowboys smack dab in
the middle of Brooklyn! They own, stable and work nearly 300 head of horses,
many of the cowponies working critters. The Federation holds two Rodeos every
year, one at their very own East Brooklyn Rodeo grounds, itself barely
visible from speeding cars zooming by on their way to Long Island!
Then there was B&H. Imagine, five glorious, unhurried days in B&H! My Dad
and me made two forays together, him holding his hands over his eyes like a
blind man, for fear of succumbing to the many temptations B&H, like a sleek
slut, presents.
I bought a complete Polaroid camera 203 Passport system (for the business), a
hood for the 67ll, a slightly used, a near mint PZ-1p and since I too am a
slut, and no longer have to shoot 35mm for fun or profit, a SIGMA 50-500
Bazooka; I too had to be drug away from B&H, having blown out both Gold Cards
by then.
But I'm home, and like the sleaze that I am, fondling the new, erotic (nearly
15 inches long with the Butterfly lens hood attached) looking combo, waiting
for an excuse to shoot with the two of them. Maybe some Zoo shots tomorrow...
I also laid in some 4 x 5 Portra NC 160 for the coming portraiture season,
two test rolls of the new Portra P-100T 35mm film and a brick of Supra.
+My Dad hadn't visited B&H since before they moved into the present building.
Image him, a Canon F-1, Pentax LX, first Minolta 35mm Minolta owner nor
visiting B&H for more than 20 years! How wasteful of him and how jealous I am
of him!

Both of us know the digital Vs chemical argument is open ended, as are many
photography related discussions. I don't argue against small format digital
or the niche it will and has already carved out for itself.
I do vigorously oppose those doom and gloom prognosticators who so cavalierly
predict the demise of 35mm chemical imaging because of the advent of small
format digital.
I'll spin off this mortal coil soon enough. Whenever that is, I'm certain by
then that the 35mm throwaway, when I go will be SLR affairs with metal lens
mounts so we can use our Pentax K mount lenses on them, will still hold sway
over those uppity digital whippersnappers.
