Frontier is a Fuji process.  I have used both and I use Frontier almost
exclusively now.  I usually get 8x12 (full frame 35mm for the same price as
8x10)) and then crop in the mat.  There is a limit to the size of the
Frontier enlargement compared to what is available from Ciba, it  may be
12x18 but I don't have the specs in front of me just now.  Ciba allows for
larger prints.  You can choose matt or glossy finish.  They are also
cheaper...  I pay $8.50 USD for an 8x12.  Just like any other process quality
depends on the skill of the operator and I am lucky that my local (Houston,
TX) shop, Houston Photo Imaging, has done excellent work.  You ask about
using "plastic" media....what do you mean?

Frontier seems to be a kind of dye/image transfer process as there is a donor
stock used in addition to the Fuji Crystal Archive paper.  Look at the Fuji
Photo website for more info.
