I have both the A 70-210/4 and the F 70-210/f4-5.6. The F-series
autofocus lens is a bit slower, but it also is smaller. I believe they
are about equal in optical quality, but I would give my F 70-210 a
slightly higher rating in contrast and color rendition compared to my
A 70-210/4.

They are both good lenses. The F 70-210 was much less expensive than
the A 70-210 ($56 vs $125). The F lens goes pretty cheap on Ebay, lord
only knows why, considering it's such a good lens. The A lens usually
goes for about $150 and up in very good condition, although recently
some on Ebay have not received high bids.

Nowadays, I usually carry the F 70-210/f4-5.6 instead of the A 70-210.
Matter of fact, I like the F 70-210 so much that I keep two of them
around the house.
