I think most of us are complaining because we want
Pentax to treat us as N**** treat their professional
market large assortment of lens and the last gimmicks
on magnificent camera bodies. Unfortunately, Pentax
doesn't seem to be going for the professional market,
but keeping in the SLR entry level and maybe with the
limited lens and a new metal body targeting a niche of
high quality demanding consumer that is willing to pay
the price for it. The history of the company says
that. Good and affordable cameras. LX was its only so
called professional camera. Even N**** says that is
the entry level market that pays for the professional
products.
To be honest I chose Pentax primarily because of the
price/quality relation. Pentax has some great lens I
can afford and give me the results that a 2 or 3 times
more expensive N**** would give me. PZ1 is a great
camera that gives me most of what a F90x has for a
fraction of its price. Surely there are deficiencies
and several Pentax products are very cheap but they
serve to their purpose. What's sometimes frustrating
is that when you start getting demanding about your
equipment there's no upgrade in the line. No company
can afford to produce only top of the line products
because there's not enough people to buy them. Indeed
the final goal of any capitalist company is to
maximize profits. There's nothing wrong with that.
That's why competition is important. And I think,
besides reputation, that's one of the reasons why
Pentax is releasing a new body after years of silence
regarding innovations. They're fearing some erosion on
their entry level market. N**** N80 is selling so much
that there's waiting list in photo stores. N**** can't
produce enough to supply the demand. The price of this
camera is in the same range as the MZ7 and MZ3
offering all F100's gimmicks in a poorly constructed
plasticky but rather cheap body. After all, Pentax is
being forced to produce better products or loose the
marketshare.
