A definition of how to keep an inflammatory off-topic thread alive....
I'll tell you the problem I have with it. I work a full-time job with lots
of responsibilities and worries, and I'm a single parent, responsible for
all the cooking, shopping, and laundry and for the care of my son. Plus I
have a number of private internet correspondences that I keep up. And I'm
getting three to five Pentax List Digests a day--and I JUST DON'T HAVE TIME
to read all that. When you keep your grenades going back and forth with Pal,
it's that much more than I have to scan for in order to find the things I'm
interested in, and it means I'm that much less likely to see the posts I
want to see--the ones about darkroom techniques, the 50/1.2, and new Pentax
products, etc.
I realize there are a lot of Pentax-related topics I have no interest
in--the Lycos thread, for instance--but that's fine, because it's certainly
photography-related and others are interested. But having to endure the
grenade-tossing match gets to be a little bit much after about the 150th
off-topic soapbox speech.
That's the last you'll hear from me about the matter, since I don't want to
contribute to keeping this going.
