Perhaps if stopped down enough, it would be ok (ie at f/8 or f/11). I was
always told, that esp. with cheaper TC's, you have to stop down 2
additional f/stops. And if that 1.7/50 is sharpest at let's say f/5.6, with
TC it would be 2x f/5.6 = f/11 PLUS at least 1 stop for the TC ... pretty
bad combo for portraits! If the 1.7/50 is good at f/2.8, it would be f/5.6
with TC, plus 1 additional stop to ensure sharper image... f/8 ... That's
not a portrait combo with "100mm" lens. Could be used ok for landscape, etc.
Perhaps, if TC & wide open, it would back as a soft-focus lens ;)
