I have concluded that the Epson is probably not good enough for the sort of
35mm neg stuff that I really want, and that I will probably need a proper
film scanner for that. However, it is all the flatbed I will ever need, and
would probably suffice for a while as a film scanner. Any further advances
in flatbeds will be lost on me so now it the time to buy a definitive
one(hopefully), but the world of film scanners is still in continual flux!
There is a new generation of 4000ish dpi scanners just starting to replace
the 'only just good enough' 2800ish dpi scanners. These new ones are rather
pricey at the moment, and I want to wait for reviews etc to be done so that
I dont make a mistake.

So for now I have ordered Epson 1640SU photo

And shortlisted for future: Kodak 3600, Nikon 4000 & hopefully soon a
minolta...

Never simple is it!

I will let you know just how good/bad I think of the Epson for 35mm negs
upon delivery.

Thanks to everyone for help & resources!

Rob
