Glad to see it's not only the case here in Japan. Quite often, you'll find people on Yahoo Auctions bidding close to 90% of the price of a new item which doesn't make a lot of sense to me since that 10% would buy a lot of peace of mind knowing that the item is brand new and under warranty... For example, the Canon D30 sells for about JPY265,000 (after discount) and a unit was picked up for JPY250,000 last night. Personally, I'd pay the extra JPY150,000 (US$140) to know that I've got a unit in brand new condition...
