If there is nothing missing from the top surface of the tripod then is would
be better to put a washer under the attachment screw (between the tripod and
the knurled head of the screw). Don't put anything on the top surface of the
tripod if it still has it's original bearing surface - cork, rubber or
plastic, or whatever. Anything small, like a rubber washer, between the
camera base and the tripod face can only make things unstable; unless of
course you recover the surface completely with a new piece of composite cork
or other suitable material. Rubber, unless it is extremely hard neoprene, or
similar, is not really suitable. The camera would not be held firmly enough.
