For BW negs I have always made sure I shot fewer than 36 exposures (on a
36 roll, natch)
cut them in strips of five and filed them in those clear archival pages
for 3 ring notebooks.
I do this as they come off the hanger from drying. Print contact sheet
and put it opposite
the negs in the book. They just fit five across on an 8x10 sheet. The
back of each contact sheet has the number of the roll on it
and the top of the archival protective pages has the number and a bit of
info. Of course,
this is for black and white stuff. Of course there are about 50 rolls
of bw around for the
early days that would give me anxiety if I started hunting through those
for something
precious.
Don't ask about color snaps tho - my negs for those are horribly
disorganized...as are the
prints.
But as for that one shot you are looking for - try the fridge or you
sock drawer <g>
