There are many reasons to have a backup body and I'm sure you'll learn all
about them from other list members. I am only going to state one use for a
backup body.

Suppose you have been hired to shoot a wedding. Now suppose your camera
body fails during the shooting. If you have a backup body, you can finish
the job you were paid for. If you don't have a backup body, you're "dead in
the water", so to speak. Contract unfulfilled. You've caused a major loss
to the whole wedding party and it will probably cause you a major loss of
income from that wedding and from future jobs when the word gets around.

Len, who tries to have two of everything in his wedding kit, even an
alternate lens or two for important focal lengths.
