Usually any customer must pay 5% tax for whatever you buy. However, many
retailers would take that off if you buy more than JPD10,000. In Nov 00, I
paid JPD70,000 (about USD640) only in Tokyo (one of the big chain
retailers). Knowing a bit Japanese and bargaining skill are very useful.
