Let me clear it up a bit.
The original Takumars were just that; Takumar (and Tele Takumar). They
had either manual or preset diaphragms.
Auto-Takumars had a semi-auto diaphragm, it closed automatically, but had
to be reset to wide open for focusing.
Later Tele Takumars and all Super Takumars have that single actuating pin
that stops down the lens when coupled to a camera that supports that
feature. (The slapper plate, I call it) Super Takumars were
multi-coated. Earlier lenses were coated, but usually a single coat per
outer lens surface, but some internal optics with different coatings.
Pentax was doing a lot of experimenting with coatings at this time.
Then came the Super-Multi-Coated Takumar, which looked like the older
Takumar and Super Takumar lenses, but had the patented Super Multi
Coating on all lens/air surfaces, and two additional registration
extensions at the rear of the lens mount that communicated information to
the camera (Spotmatic-F, ES, ES-II) needed for full aperture metering.
These are sometimes designated s-m-c Takumars, to differentiate them from
the...
SMC Takumar lenses, a totally different external look (for the ES series)
with pretty much the same optical guts, and the same open aperture
mechanism in the mount.
Any questions?
Any complaints?
