I suspect that the root of the matter is the general "dumbing
down" of the mass-market consumer in things photographic. It
started w/ the Kodak Brownie and has hit its stride w/ today's
point&shoot oriented crowd and quick&dirty 4x6 machine printers.
Serious film imaging will gravitate towards the larger formats
in the face of digital small formats, except perhaps for the
extreme focal lengths on both the long & short ends which will
justify a certain degree of sophistication in 35mm bodies to be
available to those who still use film. (Plus, of course, the old
AgHalide Heads like us here on the PDML need to be placated
occassionally to ward off a world-wide revolt against tackiness!)

I have seen a significant drop off in imaging business here,
though the Kinko-type shops are full-tilt busy using customer
supplied mediocre 4x6 drugstore prints from zoom-compacts.
Standards are lowering - Beware the lowest common denominator
