I guess it's close to impossible to make a multisegment meter that
reads the light reflected by the film or the shutter curtain. Neither
of them is a good mirror so different cells of the meter will get
light from the same spot of the image, hence this will defeat the
purpose of a multisegment meter. It may work with several non-adjacent
cells, but these don't make a good multisegment pattern, not even a
precise spot meter.
