As far as safety goes, I've heard that the older ones can have very high
trigger voltages and can damage your camera, while the newer ones are safe
to use. It's one of the problems that comes with using a flash that's
been in production for so long. If you're buying one new from a store,
don't worry abou it. The worst that will happen is that the flash will
still fire even if your shutter speed is faster than the sync speed of the
camera (I believe this is a result of the single-pin contact). If you
have an older 2800, check the voltage load across the contact.
