Yes.
No.
Claude, the soft focus lens is a very unusual (I mean special) one. It
has only two elements in front of the diaphragm, in one group. The
effect gets stronger as you open up from 5.6 (minimum aperture).
At 5.6 the effect is already clearly visible, at 2.8 you see a really
"dreamy" image.
There's no way you could use it as a normal lens.
