there are some pics to understand the following better.

1. rewind test:

Switch on the Winder.
Press and hold down the REWIND RELEASE BUTTON at the bottom of the winder
and then move the REWIND LEVER at the left side of the back towards the
middle of the winder.
The rewind coupling gets out, the motor should start and turn it as long as
you hold the lever. 

2. wind test:

look at the top of the winder.
Connect the pin which is nearest to the middle of the winder ( K4 ) with the
third pin looking from the middle of the winder ( K2 ). There will be no
damage if you take the wrong pins.
