I have been member of 3 very different clubs in different cities in
Norway. I have checked out a few other clubs too, and once I was also
co-founder of a small new one.
My general impression of Norwegian clubs is that the main purpose is
to have an arena for competition. The only club I have seen where the
competition element was absent was the one we started..:-). That said,
competition doesn't need to be an "elbows first" experience.
Most clubs seem to have "club gurus". If they are open-minded and
sociable, the club is usually a nice place to be. Both for showing
one's own pictures and for voicing opinions. It would also give a very
lean atmosphere to any competition.
IMO, if the club is a nice place to be, image education comes almost
by itself.
Best regards,
Jostein
